About Phillip Sobel
Hello, my name is Phillip and I’m an Existential Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in North London.
Existential psychotherapy, though it may sound technical and perhaps even intimidating, is really nothing of the sort. It is a therapy based on Existential Philosophy which is the philosophy that explores what it means to be human, what it means to ‘be’. What are the things in life we all struggle with, each in our uniqueness? How do we cope with our ability to make choices in life?
In a time where science rules supreme, medicine in particular, the existential approach offers a strictly non-medical way forward. I do not seek to diagnose and I do not seek to ‘cure’. I seek to help you explore your world, your struggles and your choices.
It is an oft held belief that we know ourselves well and that we know what we’re feeling, however, my experience and that of my clients has shown me again and again that we are often the last to know what we’re feeling. A confidential space with a professional like myself can be of immense value in revealing and exploring those feelings and uncovering the beliefs and values, often deeply held, that inform them.
Whether it is the loss of a loved one that you find yourself unable to move on from, a traumatic experience in your past that continues to disturb you many years after the event, if you feel trapped in a life not of your choosing or any other struggle that seems to be an inescapable part of being human, I believe I can help you open up your world and consequently, your choices.
My training, work experience and any achievement
For the last five years I have been working for a community focussed therapy service and dealt with clients from all walks of life, young and old and with all sorts of struggles including depression and anxiety; I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling and an Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy. I am accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and am bound by their code of ethics.
I have experience with both long term (Psychotherapy) and short term (Counselling) therapy. So whether you want to work together for a few sessions to deal with something specific or on a longer term basis for deeper issues that need time and space to be fully explored then I believe I can be of help. Further Information
The price quoted in the ’Price’ tab is the top end of a sliding scale that I use. I charge from £50 to £80 per session depending upon your income and though I won’t ask for details I will ask you to place yourself on the scale. If you find yourself in very difficult circumstances a lower price can be negotiated. Please call or email to discuss your options.
